Urgent Update: New Jersey Moving Company Accused of Fraud Again

UPDATE: A consumer investigation into Noble Moving and Storage has revealed alarming allegations of fraudulent practices similar to those faced by its owner, Farah Al-Ibrahim, in the past. The investigation, led by Nina Pineda of 7 On Your Side, has gained traction after numerous customers reported being pressured into paying thousands over their original moving estimates.

Over the summer, Fairfield Police reached out to Pineda, urging her to warn consumers nationwide. Following the broadcast of the warning in August 2023, reports flooded in from victims across the country, all sharing strikingly similar experiences of inflated prices on moving day. One customer stated, “When they showed up, it went to $21,000. I think it was straight-up extortion,” highlighting the urgent need for consumer awareness.

In a shocking twist, sources claim that Al-Ibrahim is allegedly running these deceptive tactics again, this time through her company, Noble Moving and Storage. A whistleblower, wishing to remain anonymous, described Al-Ibrahim as the “ringleader,” asserting, “She manages everything.” This individual confirmed that customers are often lured in with lowball estimates, only to face exorbitant charges on moving day.

The Department of Transportation is currently investigating Noble Moving and Storage for these allegations, emphasizing that they are aware of the ongoing complaints related to fraudulent pricing practices. “The pattern is what makes it become criminal,” said Stacy Chiarolanza of Fairfield Police, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

Al-Ibrahim’s husband, Joe Hannouch, who co-owns the company, has denied any wrongdoing, attributing the price hikes to customers underestimating their moving needs. However, customers vehemently dispute this claim. One victim, Nate Wheatley, stated, “They got me for about $8,000,” while another, Andrea Elliot, reported paying $18,000 instead of the quoted price.

The 2019 guilty plea by Al-Ibrahim for conspiracy to commit wire fraud looms large over the current allegations. At that time, she worked for other moving companies that employed similar tactics. Pineda pressed Al-Ibrahim for clarity on the accusations, but Al-Ibrahim insisted, “I’m not even in moving anymore,” a claim that contradicts the evidence presented.

Authorities are urging potential customers to exercise caution. If a mover offers a quote solely via phone or online and demands upfront payment or shows up in a rental truck, consumers should be wary. Experts recommend obtaining multiple estimates and thoroughly researching moving companies to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

As this investigation unfolds, 7 On Your Side continues to seek justice for those affected. If you have a story to share regarding moving companies or similar issues, contact them via email at [email protected]. Your voice could help raise awareness and prevent others from being misled.

Stay tuned for further updates as authorities delve deeper into these allegations against Noble Moving and Storage. The situation is developing rapidly, and it is crucial for consumers to remain informed and vigilant.
