Joan M. Hakun, 84, Passes Away; Mass of Christian Burial Announced

BREAKING NEWS: Joan M. Hakun, beloved wife and mother, has passed away at the age of 84 on November 9, 2025, at Luther Crest Healthcare Center in South Whitehall Township. This significant loss is felt deeply by her family and the Allentown community, where she was a cherished figure for decades.

Joan was married to her husband, George Hakun III, for an incredible 63 years. The couple’s bond was a testament to their enduring love, and Joan’s legacy will be carried on by her surviving son, Mark G. Hakun, along with his wife Maurann, and her grandchildren Monica Burnett and Marcella Hakun.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, PA 18103. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a calling hour from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. in the church.

Joan’s remarkable life began in Reading, where she was born to the late Joseph L. and Helen (Grota) Miseravage. A dedicated homemaker and former Registered Nurse, she graduated from both Reading High School and the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, later attending Kutztown University. Joan was a devoted member and former Lector at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she contributed her time and spirit to the community.

Her passions included traveling, reading, and appreciating classical music. Joan was also a former member of the Allentown Garden Club, further showcasing her love for beauty and nature. She is remembered not just for her roles as a wife and mother, but also as a grandmother and great-grandmother to Emma Burnett, alongside her late son, Andrew G. Hakun.

Arrangements are being handled by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home in Allentown. Those wishing to honor Joan’s memory are encouraged to contribute to her beloved church.

This news comes as a heartbreaking reminder of the impact one individual can have on family and community alike. Joan M. Hakun will be deeply missed, and her contributions to those around her will not be forgotten.
