Grassfield Girls Capture Region Championship; Cosby Boys Upset in Finals
UPDATE: In an exciting showdown, the top-seeded Grassfield girls volleyball team has clinched the Class 6 Region A championship with a dominant performance against Thomas Dale, winning 3-0 on November 11, 2025. The Grizzlies showcased their strength with set scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-11, securing their spot as regional champions.
Grassfield’s victory is marked by impressive contributions from players like Benisa Moore, Kenzie Johnson, Emery Stahl, and Lauren Dolbeck, each racking up five kills. Defensively, Ryann Bothof stood out with a remarkable 24 digs, demonstrating the team’s comprehensive skills on the court.
In contrast, the boys’ championship did not favor Grassfield, as they faced a tough defeat at home against Cosby. The Titans emerged victorious, winning 3-1 in the Class 6 Region A championship match, with set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-20. The loss was a disappointment for Grassfield fans, especially as Isaiah Agustin walked off the court visibly upset.
Meanwhile, in the Class 4 Region A championship, Grafton secured the title with a commanding 3-0 win over Jamestown, solidifying their status as a top contender. Kenzie Smith led the Clippers with an outstanding performance, contributing 21 kills and three blocks. Grafton will face Atlee in the upcoming Class 4 state quarterfinals on Saturday at 4 p.m..
In another notable match, the Class 3 Region A semifinals saw New Kent and Tabb advance to the finals. New Kent triumphed over Lakeland with a score of 3-0, while Tabb defeated Colonial Heights by the same margin, setting the stage for a thrilling final.
