Mother of Two Shot Dead at Covina Storage Facility, Vigil Held
URGENT UPDATE: A tragic shooting has claimed the life of Patricia Villa, a mother of two, at a storage facility in Covina, California. The incident occurred on November 2, 2023, around 5 p.m., just before the facility closed for the day. The suspected gunman, identified as Juan Nava, 66, is now in police custody.
Loved ones gathered for an emotional vigil on Saturday to honor Patricia, whose life was abruptly cut short in a shocking act of violence. “Patricia was a non-violent person… why did this have to happen to her?” her father, Frank Villa, expressed in heartbreak. Friends and coworkers described her as a dedicated employee and a beacon of positivity in their lives.
The shooting unfolded when security footage captured Nava arriving at the facility, donning a mask, and arming himself before entering. Tragically, when Patricia’s family could not reach her, they went to the site and discovered her lying inside, having been shot five times.
Authorities confirmed that Nava was a customer at the storage facility and reportedly undergoing a mental health crisis. A search of his residence revealed multiple firearms, including automatic weapons. “They found many arms, automatic weapons, side arms, pistols,” Frank Villa stated.
No bail has been set for Nava, and his next court appearance is scheduled for December 9, 2023. In light of this devastating loss, a GoFundMe page has been established to support Patricia’s family during this difficult time. “I don’t know how anybody could, you know, even plan for something like this,” said Deann Pancheri, a coworker and friend.
As the community grapples with this senseless tragedy, questions linger about the circumstances leading to such violence. The Covina Police Department is actively investigating the case, while local residents are left mourning the loss of a vibrant life taken too soon.
Stay tuned for updates as this story develops, and consider supporting Patricia’s family through the GoFundMe page set up in her memory.
