UPDATE: Newport News voters have decisively re-elected Gabe Morgan as sheriff, confirming his fifth consecutive term with a commanding 72% of the vote. The election results, announced at 10:01 p.m., reflect strong community support as Morgan faced off against independent candidate Francis Jacobson, who garnered over 28% of ballots.

“I think my body of work speaks for itself, and my commitment to this community was rewarded by the voters,” Morgan stated at his election watch party at Cozzy’s Comedy Club, pledging to continue serving the people of Newport News. “I do this not because I have to. I do this because I love what I do,” he added, expressing gratitude for the community’s trust.

In other key races, Democrat Shannon Jones has secured a four-year term as Newport News’ Commonwealth’s Attorney, running unopposed after defeating incumbent Howard Gwynn in the primaries earlier this year. Jones brings experience as a former assistant city attorney, promising to prioritize justice and community safety.

Democrat Sanu Dieng-Cooper emerged victorious in the race for Newport News treasurer, defeating independent candidate Justin Kennedy with over 59% of the votes. Dieng-Cooper, who will replace outgoing treasurer Marty Eubank, aims to modernize financial operations and enhance financial literacy among residents.

Incumbent Tiffany Boyle also retained her position as commissioner of revenue, running unopposed. Boyle has held the role since 2018 and manages crucial city functions including business licenses and state income tax returns.

As Newport News moves forward with its elected officials, these results highlight a clear mandate from voters for continued leadership and community-focused initiatives. Stay tuned for further updates as the new terms commence and officials outline their priorities for the coming years.
