Americus Celebrates Halloween with Festive Events and Community Spirit

Residents of Americus embraced the spirit of Halloween and the arrival of fall with a series of vibrant community events. On October 31, 2023, families adorned in costumes filled Lee Street for trick-or-treating, while adults welcomed them from their porches, handing out candy and enjoying the festive atmosphere.
Among those participating was Susie Perry, who brought her two daughters and niece, each dressed in imaginative outfits as a dead cheerleader, a dead bride, and a model. “We come out for trick-or-treating every year and love dressing up,” Perry remarked, emphasizing the tradition’s significance for her family. Similarly, Perri Cooper brought her children, who were excited to showcase their costumes as Spider-Man and The Hulk. Cooper noted that candy corn has become a favorite treat during these celebrations.
Community Engagement at Amazing Grace Church
A highlight of the evening was the trunk-or-treat event organized by Amazing Grace Church. Vehicles decorated with various themes lined the church parking lot, creating a festive environment for children. According to Pastor Randall LaRoche, “Trunk or treat is just a fun time for the family, and it’s our goal at Amazing Grace to get to know our community and do something for the community.” The event featured games for kids, further fostering community connections.
The festivities continued beyond Halloween at Central Baptist Church, which hosted a fall festival that attracted many local families. On the following Sunday, bands from The Well Church, Iglesia Christiana, and Central Baptist played uplifting worship music. Attendees enjoyed a variety of food trucks, inflatable attractions, and amusement rides geared towards children. The event culminated in a spectacular fireworks display, bringing the community together to celebrate the season.
These events reflect the strong community spirit in Americus, where families cherish traditions and create lasting memories during Halloween and fall festivals. As local organizations continue to engage residents through such initiatives, the bond among community members grows stronger, making these celebrations a cherished part of life in Americus.
