Orioles Hire Craig Albernaz as New Manager Amid Rebuild
BREAKING: The Baltimore Orioles have officially hired Craig Albernaz as their new manager, aiming for a significant turnaround after a tough 2025 season. This urgent development comes after the Orioles parted ways with former manager Brandon Hyde mid-season, following a dismal 15-28 start to the year. Interim manager Tony Mansolino led the team to a 75-87 finish, placing them last in the American League East.
This move is seen as a critical step for the Orioles, as they look to capitalize on a promising roster filled with young talent. Albernaz, known for his strong rapport with players, previously served as the associate manager for the Cleveland Guardians, who clinched the American League Central title this year. His hiring marks a pivotal moment for a franchise eager to reclaim its competitive edge.
Albernaz, aged 42, has been recognized as a rising star in coaching, having built a reputation for his ability to connect with younger players. His managerial journey began with the Tampa Bay Rays, where he played for eight seasons before transitioning to coaching. His experience includes stints as a bullpen and catching coach with the San Francisco Giants, where he was instrumental in player development.
The Orioles boast one of the most promising lineups in baseball, featuring standout players such as shortstop Gunnar Henderson, catcher Adley Rutschman, and second baseman Jackson Holliday. With an exciting core, Albernaz’s challenge lies in enhancing the pitching staff, which struggled last season. While left-hander Trevor Rogers showed potential, the health of right-hander Grayson Rodriguez remains a concern after injuries.
As the Orioles prepare for the 2026 season, Albernaz faces the daunting task of navigating the highly competitive AL East, home to formidable teams like the defending champion Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, and the poised Boston Red Sox. His first major league managerial role comes at a critical time, with fans hopeful for a resurgence.
With the deal nearing finalization, the Orioles are making headlines as they seek to transform their fortunes. Fans will be eagerly watching how Albernaz’s leadership will shape the team’s future. For updates on his debut and the Orioles’ offseason strategies, stay tuned.
