KNWA Wins Two Awards at 2025 Mid-America Emmy Ceremony
At the 2025 Mid-America Emmy Awards held in St. Charles, Missouri, on November 4, 2024, KNWA’s news team secured two prestigious awards, highlighting their commitment to high-quality journalism. The station garnered a total of 13 nominations across various categories, showcasing its strong presence in the regional media landscape.
Recognizing Excellence in Journalism
Doug Warner won in the “Religion – News” category for his impactful piece, “The Good Stuff: Lifting Up Greenwood.” This story focused on a young cross-country runner, Kaylee, from Batesville, who demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship by stopping to assist a fellow runner from Greenwood who had collapsed just before the finish line.
Warner expressed pride in the achievements of the KNWA newsroom, stating, “Win or lose, a news team with 13 Emmy nominations is an indication from our peers that KNWA has really stepped up its newsgathering and journalistic standards. I’m proud to be a part of this newsroom, every person in it, and what we are doing.”
Dan Skoff also received an award, winning in the “Weathercast” category for his segment titled “Rogers Tornado Caught on Camera – November 4, 2024.” Skoff took to social media to express his gratitude, saying he was “humbled and deeply honored” to be recognized for his work.
Details of the Winning Stories
Warner’s winning story, “Lifting Up Greenwood,” highlights the essence of compassion in sports. He described how Kaylee felt a deep moral obligation to help another athlete, stating, “In her heart, she knew Jesus would never just run past someone like that. So, she wasn’t about to do the same, even if it cost her valuable time in her last high school race.” This narrative resonates with themes of empathy and selflessness.
Skoff’s award-winning weathercast depicted the dramatic events surrounding the tornado that struck Rogers, capturing both the intensity of the situation and the importance of timely information during natural disasters.
The recognition of Warner and Skoff at the 49th Mid-America Emmy Awards underscores the station’s dedication to journalistic excellence. With a strong showing of nominations, KNWA not only celebrates individual achievements but also reinforces its mission to deliver impactful news coverage to its audience.
