In a recent interview, actor Adam Driver disclosed that Disney has cancelled plans for a highly anticipated spinoff film centered on his character, Kylo Ren. This revelation comes amidst discussions surrounding the profitability of the Star Wars franchise under Disney, raising eyebrows about missed opportunities for the studio.

Driver, who portrayed Kylo Ren in the sequel trilogy, shared details about the project during a conversation with reporters for Associated Press while promoting Jim Jarmusch‘s film *Father Mother Sister Brother*. He revealed that he and acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh spent two years developing a script titled *The Hunt for Ben Solo*, which Disney ultimately rejected. Driver described the script as “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.”

The actor explained that after presenting the concept to Lucasfilm, the studio expressed enthusiasm and fully understood the creative direction. However, when the proposal reached Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, it was met with skepticism. Driver recounted their feedback: they “didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive,” leading to the project’s cancellation.

This news adds to a growing list of unrealized Star Wars projects, including the previously announced film *Rogue Squadron*, directed by Patty Jenkins. Many fans are left wondering what could have been, particularly given the popularity of Kylo Ren as a character. Driver expressed his ongoing interest in reprising the role, stating that he had been in discussions about doing another project since 2021. He emphasized, “With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him.”

Soderbergh also expressed disappointment, saying, “I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m just sorry the fans won’t get to see it.” The cancellation has ignited frustration among fans of Kylo Ren, with reactions evident on social media. One user succinctly summed up the sentiment, stating, “This infuriates me more than anything has in a very long time.”

As Disney prepares to enter a new era with its Star Wars franchise, the decision to cancel a project that could have provided a deeper exploration of Kylo Ren’s character is particularly concerning. Many fans believe that a film focusing on the internal struggle of Ben Solo could have addressed some of the narrative issues that arose in *The Rise of Skywalker*.

The absence of this project has sparked discussions about the future of the Star Wars universe, leaving fans eager for more stories that delve into beloved characters. As the franchise continues to evolve, it remains clear that the demand for rich storytelling and character development is stronger than ever.
