Kike Hernández Poised to Set Dodgers’ Postseason Record in World Series
The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the brink of making history as they seek to become the first team in 25 years to win back-to-back World Series titles. Following a commanding sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series (NLCS), the Dodgers are gearing up for the World Series with a key player set to break a franchise record.
Kike Hernández, a veteran outfielder for the Dodgers, is prepared to surpass the franchise record for the most postseason games played when he takes the field for Game 1 of the World Series. In a recent press conference with SBNation reporter Eric Stephen, Hernández expressed his surprise and excitement at the achievement.
“This is not just any franchise, man. This is the LA Dodgers,” said Hernández, reflecting on the significance of the moment. “They’ve been around for a long time, and they have a lot of history. For a guy like me from Puerto Rico, to be sitting in this position is pretty special.”
Hernández is set to match Justin Turner‘s record of 86 postseason games with this appearance. With nine seasons under his belt with the Dodgers, Hernández has made it to the playoffs each year, demonstrating his consistency and resilience.
Strong performances have defined Hernández’s postseason thus far. He is currently batting .306 with a .375 on-base percentage and a .792 slugging percentage, including four doubles and four runs batted in. His contributions will be critical as the Dodgers aim for another championship.
While the excitement of breaking the record looms, Hernández remains focused on the task at hand. “I haven’t really wanted to reflect too much on it because there’s going to be a time for that once I’m done playing,” he stated. “But for now, I’m just focused on today. It will be cool if my name is up there with the most Dodger World Series ever.”
The Dodgers enter the World Series with a blend of experience and talent, bolstered by the impressive performances of players like Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani’s incredible Game 4 performance in the NLCS, where he struck out ten batters while also hitting three home runs, showcased the depth of the team’s roster.
As the World Series approaches, all eyes will be on Kike Hernández to see if he can not only match but surpass the postseason record, further solidifying his legacy within the storied franchise of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The series promises to be a thrilling chapter in baseball history, with Hernández at the forefront of the action.
