GOP Fears Losing Power Amid Growing Anti-Trump Protests
UPDATE: Organizers are reporting a surge in anti-Trump sentiment as the GOP ramps up its attacks on peaceful protesters across the nation. Indivisible organizer Ezra Levin revealed to CNN’s Dana Bash that Congressional Republicans are increasingly worried about the growing movement against the Trump administration.
Levin’s comments come on the heels of a Wall Street Journal report indicating that the Trump administration is planning a major overhaul of the IRS, targeting left-leaning groups like Indivisible. “He’s already got a list of potential targets,” Bash noted, questioning Levin on their preparations for an escalation in hostility. Levin responded emphatically, stating, “What do they say? First, they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win. We’re one step from winning.”
The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated. Levin emphasized that the GOP’s attacks reflect a deep-seated fear of losing power. “They are worried that other people in blue states, red states, and purple states… are going to see the public doesn’t support them. And that makes them scared,” he stated.
This sentiment is echoed in the increasing number of protests planned nationwide. Levin reported over 2,600 protest events scheduled, with more RSVPs than seen during the significant June “No Kings” protests. “Our numbers are skyrocketing,” he asserted, suggesting that the GOP’s aggressive rhetoric is backfiring.
Bash highlighted clips of Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, labeling protesters as the “Pro-Hamas wing” of the Democratic Party. Levin pointed out the troubling implications of such rhetoric, stating, “The number 1 thing they fear is peaceful protests, because authoritarian regimes depend on convincing the populace that they are alone and weak.” He denounced the GOP’s tactics as unconstitutional and illegal, vowing that Indivisible would not back down.
As this situation develops, all eyes will be on the upcoming protests and the GOP’s response. The escalating tension between anti-Trump activists and Republican leaders signals a critical moment for both sides. The urgent question remains: how will this growing wave of opposition shape the political landscape in the coming weeks?
