El Paso Community College Celebrates Alba Quintero’s Graduation
UPDATE: El Paso Community College (EPCC) is celebrating the graduation of 22-year-old Alba Lucía Quintero García, an inspiring international student from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, who will receive her Associate of Arts in Dance this week. This milestone marks a significant achievement for Alba, who has become a vital part of the EPCC community through her dedication and leadership.
In a remarkable journey, Alba has crossed the border twice a week to attend early morning practices, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her passion for dance. “Dancing means that no matter where I am, I will always have that comfort with me,” Alba shared in an interview with EPCC News. Her story is one of perseverance, as she has transformed dance from a childhood remedy for hyperactivity into her life’s calling.
Alba’s leadership skills shine brightly. She has served as the president of the Dance Club and is an active member of the Speech and Debate Team. Her involvement allowed her to compete in collegiate tournaments as far away as San Diego, California, significantly enhancing her English and public speaking skills. Leonor Forrestal, assistant coach of the EPCC Spirit Squad, praised her resilience, stating, “Alba’s passion for performance and exceptional work ethic make her a standout student and a true highlight of our program.”
Despite the challenges of a demanding academic schedule, Alba has embraced the unique cultural blend of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez. “At first it was really hard, but in the end, you discover the magic of the border. You realize El Paso and Juárez are really one big city,” she explained, reflecting on her experiences.
Family support has been crucial in Alba’s success, particularly from her mother, whose encouragement has propelled her forward. As she prepares for graduation, Alba is already looking ahead to her next academic endeavor. She plans to continue her education at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), aiming for a master’s degree and a future career in teaching dance.
This graduation not only highlights Alba’s achievements but also serves as an inspiration to fellow international students navigating similar paths. With her sights set on making a positive impact in the world of dance, Alba’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and dedication.
