CNN’s Harry Enten Highlights Trump’s Dismal Approval Ratings
CNN analyst Harry Enten has delivered a stark assessment of former President Donald Trump’s approval ratings, revealing troubling figures that could impact the Republican Party’s prospects in upcoming mid-term elections. During a segment on December 1, 2023, Enten discussed the latest Gallup poll, which indicates Trump’s job approval rating has plummeted to 36%, the lowest since he recorded 34% following the January 6 Capitol riots.
Enten conveyed the seriousness of this decline while speaking with CNN News Central host Sara Sidner, stating, “I mean, it’s a disaster if it holds until the midterm elections.” He compared the current approval figures with previous months, highlighting a significant shift. In January, Trump held a net approval rating of minus one point, which was effectively breaking even. Now, the situation has worsened drastically, with a net approval rating of minus 24 points.
“This represents a drop of over 20 points in the wrong direction for the president,” Enten noted. The data suggests a troubling trend for Trump, as his disapproval rating has surged to 60%, a notable increase from just under 50% in February 2025.
Enten provided a historical perspective by referencing past presidents’ approval ratings. He pointed out that the only president with worse numbers at a similar point in their second term was Richard Nixon, who faced a net approval rating of minus 36 points. “Trump is at minus 24 points. That’s worse than George W. Bush at minus 19 points, and it also surpasses the figures for Harry S. Truman, Lyndon Baines Johnson, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton,” he explained.
Reactions from viewers on social media reflected a mix of concern and criticism. One user remarked, “I knew Trump’s approval rating would go way down once the impact of the Big Beautiful Bill started affecting people.” Another commenter noted, “Trump’s approval just hit a pathetic 36%, the worst second-term start since Nixon, and already cratering faster than his casinos.”
Despite the alarming figures, Trump appeared to dismiss the negative data. He took to Truth Social last week, claiming to have the “highest Poll Numbers, ever,” and insisted that the economic achievements of his administration would eventually be recognized.
As the political landscape evolves, these approval ratings may significantly influence the Republican Party’s strategy leading up to the mid-term elections. The potential ramifications for Trump’s political future remain to be seen, particularly if these trends continue.
