Connecticut Police Urge Caution as First Snowfall Hits Tuesday
UPDATE: Connecticut State Police are urgently advising drivers to exercise extreme caution as the state’s first significant snowfall is set to hit on Tuesday. Forecasts predict 1 to 3 inches of snow beginning late morning, with hazardous conditions expected on state roadways and highways.
Authorities are mobilizing to patrol affected areas during the inclement weather. They are urging drivers to avoid travel whenever possible. If driving is necessary, motorists are advised to check the latest road conditions before departing.
Connecticut State Police stress the importance of vehicle readiness. Drivers must ensure their windshield wipers are operational and that their gas tank is sufficiently full for the journey. Furthermore, police recommend informing a family member or friend about the intended route and keeping a fully charged cell phone on hand.
Before setting out, all snow and ice should be removed from vehicles to enhance visibility and safety. While on the road, maintaining operational headlights and allowing ample space between vehicles is crucial, especially under icy and wet conditions. Speed should be reduced on snow-covered roads, and proper use of turn signals is essential.
“On all roads, allow snowplows the space they need to clear snow from travel lanes. If your vehicle becomes stuck or disabled, please remain inside it for safety and call 911,”
state police officials stated. They also highlighted the necessity of quickly arranging for the removal of disabled vehicles to facilitate road clearing by the Department of Transportation. Failure to do so may result in towing.
Connecticut State Police remind all motorists, “When you see emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or maintenance vehicles with flashing lights, it’s your responsibility to move over to the next lane if possible or slow down to a safe speed. This law helps protect workers and first responders.”
As the snowfall approaches, police are prepared to assist any motorists who may find themselves stranded or involved in accidents. They emphasize the importance of safety and caution during this potentially hazardous weather event.
Stay tuned for more updates as this situation develops. Prepare now to ensure your safety and the safety of others on the roads!
