CD Projekt Red Confirms No 2026 Release for The Witcher 4
CD Projekt Red has announced that the highly anticipated game, The Witcher 4, will not be released in 2026. This update came during the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call, where CEO Michał Nowakowski and CFO Piotr Nielubowicz provided insights into the development status of both The Witcher 4 and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2.
During the earnings call, Nowakowski confirmed that The Witcher 4 is currently in its “full-scale production phase.” Despite this progress, he did not disclose any specific target release window or details regarding the game’s technical development. “The only thing we’re commenting is that we’re not launching in 2026,” he stated, leaving fans with mixed emotions.
While the announcement regarding the release date was disappointing, Nowakowski offered some encouragement to fans. He mentioned that future installments in the Witcher series, including sequels to The Witcher 4, are expected to have shorter development cycles. “Our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period,” he explained. This suggests a more rapid succession of releases for the series.
The anticipation surrounding The Witcher 4 remains high, as the game was recently nominated for the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards 2024. In a post on the social media platform X, Nowakowski expressed gratitude to fans for their support but also informed them not to expect any new content for the game at this year’s awards ceremony.
The Witcher 4 is set to be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. Although an official release date has yet to be announced, the game will take place after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and feature a new storyline centered around Geralt’s adoptive daughter, Ciri. Notably, Doug Cockle will reprise his role as Geralt, while Ciara Berkeley will voice Ciri, taking over from Jo Wyatt.
As fans await further updates on The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red’s commitment to a trilogy suggests an exciting future for the franchise, even as they navigate the challenges of game development.
