Clovis Shoppers Boost Local Economy on Urgent Small Business Saturday
UPDATE: Clovis, California, transformed into a bustling winter wonderland on December 2, 2023, as shoppers flocked to support local businesses during Small Business Saturday. The streets of Old Town Clovis were alive with excitement as residents sought unique holiday deals, directly impacting small businesses in the area.
Shoppers like Heather Martinez expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “Everyone’s antique shopping right here in Clovis, which is great. The weather is great, the venues are amazing.” Martinez, who stumbled upon a one-of-a-kind antique item, noted, “How beautiful is that, you can’t get that anywhere else.” Her spontaneous shopping experience reflects a growing trend of community-focused purchasing, essential for local economies.
Local business owner Tom Frost of Frost Oak Creek Creations highlighted the significance of this shopping day. “I would say the holiday season is about a third of your business for the year,” he stated, emphasizing how vital these days are for sustaining small enterprises. Frost’s shop is known for hard-to-find items, including Charlie Bears and unique holiday décor, drawing in customers eager for distinctive gifts.
In nearby Manchester Mall in central Fresno, other merchants echoed this sentiment. Lani, the owner of Shake & Sip Lemonade Stand, remarked, “Big box stores treat you like just another number, but you could be making a life-changing difference by supporting local.” This highlights the emotional connection between small businesses and their customers, underscoring the impact of every purchase.
While Small Business Saturday is a designated day for community shopping, local businesses in Clovis appreciate support year-round. The surge in foot traffic during this period is crucial for sustaining their operations, especially as the holiday season approaches.
As shoppers continue to fill the streets, the urgency to support small businesses grows. Residents are encouraged to consider the broader implications of their shopping choices, reinforcing the idea that local purchases help maintain community vitality.
