URGENT UPDATE: San Francisco is bracing for significant traffic disruptions as Caltrans prepares to commence a major overhaul of the heavily trafficked 19th Avenue starting on December 1. This crucial North-South artery will see construction that could severely impact daily commutes for thousands of drivers.

According to officials from Caltrans Bay Area-District 4, the first phase of the project will affect traffic from Sloat Blvd. north to Lincoln Way. The construction will involve lane repaving and parking strip work, primarily scheduled during off-peak hours. However, commuters should expect to navigate around intermittent lane reductions that are anticipated to transform rush hour traffic into a frustrating stop-and-go experience.

The extensive project spans 18.8 lane miles, and includes planned nighttime work at key intersections like Park Presido and California. Drivers are strongly advised to anticipate slower travel times and potential relocation of bus stops, which are vital for public transit users.

Caltrans is committed to keeping at least one lane open in each direction throughout the construction period to help maintain some level of traffic flow. However, commuters should prepare for delays, especially during peak travel times of 6–10 AM and 3–7 PM.

As San Francisco residents gear up for this extensive construction, the project is part of a broader initiative aimed at rehabilitating major thoroughfares in the city. While officials aim to improve infrastructure, the impact on daily commuters will be felt almost immediately.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes to minimize congestion and make their commutes as smooth as possible amid the expected disruptions. With the construction set to begin in just a few days, now is the time for residents to plan ahead.

Stay tuned for further updates as this developing situation unfolds in the coming weeks.
